A Rich History & Tradition of Excellence
Founded by Chartered Engineer William Mayberly Llewellin in 1883, Llewellin’s Machine Company Ltd first specialised in the manufacture of clocks and time recorders before becoming recognised as one of Britain’s most promising engineering firms.
During WW1, Llewellin’s could be found hard at work machining shell cases for the Ministry of Munitions. Our next chapter was written in 1927, a busy year involving the expansion of our floor space and incorporation, as we shifted our focus toward the manufacture of gears. Again, we played a vital role in the war effort during WW2, as we produced tens of thousands of gears for various ministries and purposes, from small aircraft gears and sighting equipment to wheels for tank landing crafts.

Our original Georgian office is a registered architectural and historical interest, and remains our headquarters to this day, situated at the top of King Square. We pride ourselves on being a small, family-run business that has succeeded for many years due to the dedication and commitment of our employees. While Llewellin’s constantly strives to embrace change and the latest industry innovations, it will always retain its individuality and honour its rich past and tradition.
